UPDATE: Updated article with pics from new NP mag.

I don’t know if I’ve gotten my next Nintendo Power issue before everyone else, but it is LOADED with great news! NP has an exclusive on the new Prince of Persia game coming to Wii. Apparently it is a rework of The Two Thrones which was released last year. I’ve never played this one in the series, but I’ve only heard good things. The article shows how exactly the game will be controlled with the wiimote/nunchuk combination. Here are the moves it goes over:

  • Dagger Plant
  • Speed Kill
  • Free-Form Fighting
  • The Daggertail

I won’t spoil how exactly they use the Wii’s controls, but it looks great! Suffice it to say, Prince of Persia on Wii is shaping up to be another must-have title in Wii’s ever-expanding library of AAA games.

Expect this title in March! Go buy the new issue of Nintendo Power for all the info.

Prince of Persia on the Wii - jeers…….

So I was checking out Go Nintendo and came across this interesting blog post regarding Prince of Persia's arrival on the Wii. I think you'll agree that the author is not being harsh, at all, and points out one of the alarming problems that is…

  2. Annoyed at Ubi says:

I fail to see how this is good news. If this is just a basic remake (or in Ubisoft’s case, yet another quick last gen port to make some quick cash) then forget it.

  3. Ubi sucks says:

    This blows.

What was Ubisoft thinking that they could just port this game over to Wii.

I would’ve preferred a brand new tale in the Prince’s franchise.

  4. jsharp says:

Agreed, I would’ve much preferred a new game in the series than a rehash. I’m going to hold out judgment on this one till it comes out. Hopefully, the control scheme will make it worth the $50.

I disagree on this Ubisoft issue. While Xbox 360 got new IPs or new installments like GRAW, Rainbow Six Las Vegas, and Assassin’s Creed, the Wii has been dumped on by so many ports I’ve lost confidence in the idea that we’re getting such a great deal of Ubisoft titles in such a short span of time. It’s pathetic. I mean I don’t have anything against ports mind but when the ports have turned out in the conditions Far Cry Vengence and Splinter Cell came out in, well, let’s just say I’m unimpressed. Sure the 360 got Far Cry Predator, essentially a Far Cry Evolution (Xbox) port, but that turned out well unlike Vengence, also essentially an Evolution port. What happened? Were they rushed?

And you know what? The PS3 will get ports of those Xbox360 games and I’ll bet they’ll be solid ports. The Wii can’t even get a solid port. Forget lacking online modes while other version have it, some of the controls are flawed in their implementation and the graphics pretty much look about PS2 level and don’t even make it as an Xbox port. Even Rayman doesn’t have 480p support.

For new games sure we’ve got Rayman and Red Steel, but that’s it, and they’re not even that great. What’s on the horizon? Two Thrones? What’re the chances it’ll end up like Splinter Cell on the Wii? Man I hope TMNT turns out well ’cause I think that’s about all that’s left. Seriously, what happened? We were so excited with how much Ubisoft was going to make on the Wii and it’s like we sunk like a stone.

I’ll tell you, personally, the Wii library isn’t looking so great, at least from a third-party developer support perspective. I can’t shake the nagging feeling that it’ll be Cube efforts all over again, that is the other systems will get games like Gears of War or Metal Gear Solid 4, and we’re stuck with quality that ranges from THQ Nikelodeon games, Elebits, and ports from the PS2 because the companies refuse to let the PS2 die and let the Wii be the next baseline in graphical quality. Two Nintendo consoles and five year later and developers still keep making PS2 games just to port them on the Wii without any kind of attempt to just design the games based on the strengths of the new system.

Outside of first-party titles like Zelda, SSBB, Mario, Metroid, and even Pokemon (nothing guaranteed mind), my Wii list consists of Metal Slug Anthology (a collection of 2D arcade ports – and yet no widescreen support while the PSP version seems to have it; 480p better be there) and Pangya Golf. And shouldn’t every game have 480p and widescreen? I can’t believe they allow themselves to get pushed to do 480p, 720p and 1080p plus widescreen on other consoles but when it comes to the Wii, such basics as of 480p and widescreen is become a hit and miss on a few games already.

Yup, this is starting to piss me off. It’s nice Ubi have come out doing Wii stuff, but couldn’t they do something new for once, and do it well? Nintendo should have tried to get some brand new, next gen stuff from developers. Is Ubi the best they could get?

  8. Jadnice says:

Wii is in serious trouble come 2007 if this trend of poor games or flat out terrible ports continues. Yes sales for the Wii is high at this time…hell its Christmas but the real test will come next yr when gamers real gamers buy the system for the games not for hype. Compared the others mainly 360 the games support for Wii look sub par at best.

This has to change real soon or we all will be watching the steady decline of Wii sales while PS3 and 360 steadily increase.

  9. Jay says:

Calm down guys… The Wii just came out.. sure we are getting ports early on.. the DS got the same thing… now the DS has Dragon Quest 9 exclusive! the Wii is picking up steam and dont let early launch games get u down.. the 360 didnt have a AAA title until GRAW and Oblivion came a few months after launch.. Who knows what will be revealed in the upcoming months.

  10. Rob M says:

Yeah news of the re-release of that game sucks, but how can anyone say the Wii is in troubloe in 2007 because of that?
There are way more games out for it now than there were for PS3 or XBox360, where’s the problem again? I for one didn’t have time to dig into that game, I’m still finishing up on some other games and when I will, I’ll be interested in the Wii’s control scheme as an option. Not that I hope for more remakes, I just like that option.

  11. Ummagumma says:

Since I’ve never played any PoP games outside of the first one for the Amiga, I say this is GREAT news. Woot!

  12. Eailsar says:

I think that it’s awful I love the Prince of Persia series, and I was really looking foreward to it’s continuation. I know that Sands was supposed to be a trilogy, but I figured that maybe it would be a new story-arc. You know, be about the “sands” Princes son (because at the end of “two thrones”, he was technically king).
Well, I’m depressed now. maybe it’s a publicity stunt, cuz they’re pissed about the leak. I can dream, right?

  13. Engel says:

How can there be new title/s in the pop series?! I mean, they kinda ended it when they LOOPED THE STORY! and kinda said most of it never even happened, the game ends when he’s telling you what happened, even though it didn’t! But he still knows the stuff he did from before so he can tell it! So it’s like he was there, and she was there, but then they weren’t! but he still knows they were where there, but she doesn’t! man……this is confusing! stupid time paradoxes!!!!
