IGN has a great article about all the possibilities that the Wii Channels can offer. They go through many ideas of what channels they would like to see and provide some cool concept designs, like the one above, to show you how it might work. Definitely worth a read. My favorite is the Wii Movie Trailers Channel (mmmmm…..trailers)

MIA Gamecube Games

Posted by justin On January 31, 2007

IGN Wii has an article about the Missing in Action Gamecube games. They have a list of games that never got released to store shelves for the GC. A lot of games I wanted to buy are on that list. Here’s a few of the more high profile titles:

  • Dead Phoenix (Capcom)
  • Camelot RPG (rumored to be Golden Sun)
  • Game Zero (ex-Rare studio Zoonami)
  • Raven Blade (Retro Studios)

They have an even bigger list on their site with even more games that didn’t make the Gamecube library cut. Thankfully, a couple of the games are on their way to Wii (Super Paper Mario, and Mario Galaxy).

NY Times Talks Wii Success

Posted by justin On January 31, 2007

The New York Times has a nice article about the ‘unexpected’ success the Wii is enjoying. I think the success was bound to happen since the industry got itself into a ‘graphics’ rut. The article is a good read nonetheless. Here’s a taste:

Some of the video game industry’s smartest minds thought that couch potatoes wanted richer graphics and more challenging virtual worlds. It turns out that a lot of potatoes simply wanted to get off the couch.

So is the Wii expanding the video game market, or is it stealing customers from Sony and Microsoft?

I say keep going and don’t look back Nintendo. They talk of it being a closer three way race in the market–Nintendo can blow it wide open this year with the games lineup they have.

Konami to Announce More Wii Support

Cubed3 is reporting that Konami is set to announce “a bunch” of new games for the Wii this week. No word on what those might be, but chances are Pro Evolution Soccer is one of them (perhaps even a new Castlevania?). Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Gonintendo has some more information that looks to confirm tomorrow (Thursday) as the date for these announcements. Here’s the quote from them:

Last week Midway Games hosted an event in Las Vegas to preview the company’s major 2007 titles. Other companies’ events will follow, including a San Francisco Konami announcement day scheduled for Thursday.

More confirmation of what looks to be some good news tomorrow.

Godzilla Rampages on Wii

IGN Wii has the exclusive on the new Godzilla game coming to Wii. The game will feature similar gameplay to its predecessors of fighting in a city with destructible environments. It will also feature many different playable characters.

I was never much of a fan, but it’s always nice to have more games for the Wii.

Rumor: Punch-Out!! Wii

Posted by justin On January 30, 2007

This rumor stems from N-Philes and is reported on Gonintendo’s site. The rumor is of a new Punch-Out!! game being developed for the Wii. Nintendo apparently renewed a patent for Punch-Out!! in April of ‘05. So it’s very likely to assume that they could be developing it for the Wii.

This is only a rumor, but it seems like a logical step for that series to be continued on the Wii.
