There have been some rumblings otherwise this past week, but RedOctane’s official product page for GH III on Wii has confirmed that the title will indeed be online when it releases on the Wii.  Here’s a quote from the page:

“Take your skills online against other Guitar Hero players from around the world.”

Look for Guitar Hero III next month in the States.
