“Where people go wrong in the casual market is that, while the development costs are exploding on the casual side, they’re treating the Wii like the old PC market – making cheap, accessible games. They think if they make ten titles and two are hits, they will finance the other eight. But they forget these eight crappy titles will flood the market and will lead to problems in terms of production – and upset retailers. Also, the consumer will be pissed off because they’ll be confused. …While the Wii is the strongest growing console, it’s a risk not to have well known brands in your games.” – 2K boss Christoph Hartmann

Something just occured to me while I was reading this, and I am pretty impressed by my profoundness. One of the many causes for the gaming crash in the eighties was the fact that no one was regulating games and everyone was making a game even if it was crap. Consumers became wise to this and stopped buying these crappy games; which lead to games just sitting on the shelves and developers losing money and going under. I am not saying that this will happen again, I think the gaming industry is too established for this to happen again, but it’s just something to look out for.
