C.O.R.E. May Come to the Wii

Posted May 28th @ 8:16 pm by jsharp

Nintendo-LAN.de: What do you think of Nintendo Wii? Would you agree with us, that the brand C.O.R.E. could also be great on Nintendo’s current home console?

NoWay: We consider Wii as a console with amazing potential and for sure we would like bring C.O.R.E. to this platform. It’s a bit early to give precise answer but we plan to certify as Wii developer (maybe even this year).

C.O.R.E. is an FPS that was recently announced for the DS, and it looked promising.  Hopefully if the DS version does well, we’ll see a sequel on the Wii *crosses fingers*

Miyamoto: Casual Games By Nintendo Help The Hardcore Players

Posted May 24th @ 7:47 am by jahiggin

“The core gaming market didn’t buy the Wii to play Wii Sports. But it was a means by which gamers could get the nongaming people in their lives to take an interest in their hobby. Wii Fit will play a similar role: It will continue to broaden interest in videogames. That’s important for the core gamer — the bigger the audience, the greater the chance for something that’s new and unique to succeed. As the people around you who haven’t been playing videogames take an interest in things like Wii Fit, it’s going to change the impression that people have of what videogaming means. Rather than be concerned that we’re abandoning them, core gamers should realize that we’re creating a better environment for their hobby.” - Shigeru Miyamoto

Does Wii Fit work? Real life yoga instructor weighs in on Nintendo’s next big fad

Posted May 23rd @ 9:42 pm by jahiggin

GamesRadar: Do you think these beginning calculations are anything to take seriously for yoga? How about for children?
Sally: Yoga is for everybody - you do not have to be “fit” to do it. Although now, it is very popular to have a faster, more flowing yoga at gyms. And some people do it now to lose weight, but that is not the intention. I think the weigh in and BMI might be good for some, but others might get discouraged. I did like knowing I was placed in the “healthy” category.

It’s not important at all for kids - a kid is supposed to be more free flow, like run around, etc. I don’t think they’d even be able to stand on that [Balance Board] the whole time, but age could make a difference.

GR: The game just said your Wii Fit age is 60, which is clearly off from your actual age. It suggests you’re weaker than you actually are. Any truth in that?
Sally: It seemed “right on” for me, but that wouldn’t be good. I do feel it didn’t give accuracy for being a disciplined yogi [person who practices yoga] versus a person who never did it.

    Alone In The Dark Interview

Posted May 18th @ 2:58 pm by jahiggin

Portion of GameZone interview with Nour Polloni, Producer at Eden Games:

Two years ago it was announced that Alone in the Dark would use the season format of a TV series within its one disc, as opposed to a single-script movie format. Have you kept this format, and were there any specific TV series that inspired this change?

NP: Yes, the TV-season style presentation was part of the original vision for the game and key in the delivering the experience we wanted in terms of storytelling. The biggest influences on us were the big US blockbuster TV shows like 24, Lost and Prison Break. During the early stages of the project we were all discussing the latest episode around the coffee machine and we hit on the idea of bringing that structure to the game to give the same kind of intense, gripping experience.

How will the story unfold? Each episode is said to have about 30-40 minutes of gameplay. Is it difficult to balance this when some players might beat a few episodes in 20 minutes, others in 40 minutes, and so on? And how will the transition occur from each episode to the next?

NP: There’s a total of eight episodes in the game which average over an hour each. Each episode contains plot twists, character revelations, action and cliffhangers deeply entwined with the gameplay and paced throughout the game. The difficulty was not to balance the play through time of each episode because generally during focus tests the players took the same amount of time. The difficulty was to ensure the pacing of the gameplay and the story worked and was consistent throughout the game so there’s no dead moment. There’s actually a short credits sequence that plays at the end of each episode that you can of course skip to continue, and if you’re coming back to the game a previously trailer will play to recap the key elements of the story you need to know to move forward.

    The Force Unleased Interview

Posted May 17th @ 11:50 pm by Stitzerb

NZGamer: The Wii version is going to have a slightly different story isn’t it?

Dan: The great thing about working on the Wii version with Krome studios we were able to come up with some unique content - five different missions in three locations that you won’t find on the PS3 and 360. One of those missions is the Jedi Temple; it kind of weaves into the story. Darth Vader sends you to the Jedi Temple; it has been destroyed after the Clone Wars and you’re there investigating, you’re seeing what’s going on and you go into these Jedi Trials which teach you about yourself, makes you stronger and puts you against these enemies that you’ve never seen before, for example, the ghosts of long dead Sith opponents.
