Why Nintendo should announce a new Zelda and DS at E3

Posted by Kevin Klein On June 29, 2008

E3 is just around the corner.  Everyone has already begun speculating about what Nintendo has up their sleeve.  We know just about nothing of what they have to announce.  Many believe a new Zelda announcement or even a new Nintendo handheld.  So after talking to Justin about these two speculations, I decided to look up the facts regarding Zelda and Nintendo handheld released dates. This possible could give us a clue of when Nintendo will announce a new Zelda game or even a new DS.

How long has it been since Twilight Princess was announced?  The DS was announced how long after the GBA was released?  How many years were there between the releases of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess?  Follow the jump to find out.

“Of the three consoles in the market, the only one that’s profitable is the one that used an old graphics chip and off the shelf components and instead differentiated by an input device. So what you see is that the role for retailers and for the Wii and for next generation games is new types of input devices define the experience. You’ll also notice that it is happening in the console space. Rock Band and Guitar Hero aren’t defined by being the most spectacular 3D games – they’re defined by a new type of input devices to find a new type of gameplay. To bolster that point, I’d say that’s what the Wii shows – that the future of gaming is going to be defined by controllers, not necessarily by the 3D graphics chip in the console that they come with.” – Wild Tangent CEO Alex St John

“Historically, when you would see a teenaged boy with a PS2, or Xbox 360, or the original Xbox – that was their machine, and other people, whether it was parents or younger brothers and sisters, would walk by and see ‘That’s too hard for me’ or ‘That’s content that’s either inappropriate or too hard or too mature for me.’ What we’ve seen with the Wii is that it’s the same guys initially bringing it into the household and being the guys who ask for it for holiday. But once it’s in the house, you talk to any Mom who is in that house, or little kid, and they’ve played Wii bowling and they did all the Wii sports and now all of the sudden it is a console that is also for them.” – EA Casual’s Kathy Vrabeck

I know that is a crazy title so let me explain :) The last couple months we have been looking at different names for our website to better serve all of you niwifi faithful. Our current name has worked well for us the last year and a half, but we feel it’s time for a change. Our new name, purenintendo, is representative of our mission in providing the best purely-Nintendo news blog on the Internet.

This weekend, most likely Sunday, we will launch the new website complete with a new look and feel. There may be a couple hiccups in this transition, but please bear with us.

I want to personally thank each and every one of our visitors over the last 18 months! It’s been a wild ride and all of us here at purenintendo look forward to serving you better in the future!

I am not sure what the heck happened for about half the day today.  The site just went totally down, and it did not make me happy.  I have a good amount of news and videos I wanted to post today, so you can expect a busy night tonight or a busy Sunday. Sorry for the inconveniences the site being down may of caused, but I am glade it happened on the Wiikend instead of the week.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin Launch Event Coverage

What a crazy wiikend!! Ben and I had an awesome road trip (a pilgrimage if you will) to the Nintendo World Store in New York City. We waited outside in the BITTER cold for almost 10 hours, but it was all worth it!! Nintendo gave us our free copy of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin and also a free Advance Wars beanie! I felt like a kid in a candy store walking into the store for the first time. It was like I was in a dream—cameras were flashing from every angle as the beautiful Nintendo PR rep (leggy blonde) handed me my copy of Advance Wars. The whole scene seemed like it was going in slow motion and everyone was cheering “Yeah! Justin you made it! We love you!” :)

Anyways, the launch event was pretty rad and we have a few pictures to show off of the festivities. Enjoy!
