Rumor: Developers Talk DS2 At GDC

Posted by james On March 12, 2010

I was wondering how long it would take for DS2 talk to come out of GDC. Supposedly some insiders have heard some details about the DS2 from some developers. (I know it sounds unclear, it’s a rumor) Take the details below as you will, but doesn’t it sound interesting at least? If what is said below ends up being true, would you enjoy everything listed?

- two screens that are larger than what the DS offers, but the gap between the two is so small that both screens can be better utilized for making one big picture
– development kits comparable to GameCube
– devs say there isn’t much of a learning curve
– accelerometer included
– devs looking to finish up their DS2 game development by the end of the year
– some devs think we could get an E3 2010 announcement, along with a release before 2010 closes out

Nintendo files DSi patent for virtual steering wheel

Posted by james On February 26, 2010

In one exemplary illustrative non-limiting implementation, a video game or other application displays an image of a steering wheel. Such display may be on the same screen as one that displays other information such as a race course or other environment through which the vehicle may be maneuvered in a simulated fashion, or it may be on a different screen. The steering wheel display is, in one exemplary illustrative non-limiting implementation, displayed on a screen that is touch sensitive. The touch-sensitive functionality of the screen is used in at least some exemplary illustrative non-limiting implementations to allow the video game player to control the position of the steering wheel displayed on the screen. The displayed vehicle steering wheel position, in turn, is used to control the travel motion or direction of the vehicle being simulated. The resulting simulation provides a realistic input control interface obtainable using relatively inexpensive and compact input devices such as those available on conventional portable or other video game play and/or simulation platforms.

Update: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Set to Launch in June

Posted by justin On February 23, 2010

It’s the eve of Nintendo of America’s Media Summit and rumors are already starting to churn up.  The latest comes from a Dutch site that claims Super Mario Galaxy 2 will launch this June.  I would definitely think Nintendo is further along in development than we think, so I can see this as a possibility.  Hopefully we’ll know for sure tomorrow!

Update: As confirmed by Nintendo of Australia, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M are set for release between June and August.

At the time the deal was completed, Sony vowed to make his music ‘available through every type of media’ — including a new edition of ‘Rock Band’ that Janie Hendrix says should appear before the end of this year.” – Janie Hendrix

Harmonix has recently commented that they are not planning any stand-alone Jimi Hendrix’s game, but they did say this.

“While we have not made any official announcements regarding Jimi Hendrix and Rock Band, we are excited to say that we are in discussions to bring more of his music to our platform. Stay tuned.”

The rumoured DS2 development kits are in the hands of select developers in Japan – and include a motion-sensing function, CVG can reveal.

The biggest of the firms working with the device is The Pokemon Company, which CVG understands was the first third-party business to be offered the dev kit.

“It’s genuinely the best thing I think I’ve ever worked with,” he said. “I can tell you that it’s got a ’tilt’ function that’s not dissimilar to iPhone, but does a lot more. We know that The Pokemon Company are getting special attention with it.” – CVG’s Industry Source

“Any kind of March announcement wouldn’t fit with the timeline I understand the second DS to be on,” he added.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear even more rumors over the next week.  Most of them seem to revolve around a new DS in the works, but this rumor seems to indicate that we won’t hear about the DS2 in March (presumably at GDC).  The next 8 days leading up to Nintendo’s Media Summit (Feb. 24) are going to be very interesting.  Check out the link for more info from CVG’s insider.

Rumors, love them or hate them. I am sure there will be plenty of them leading up to Nintendo’s Media Summit next week and also GDC two weeks later.

Coming right off the heals of the rumor about Nintendo announcing a new system at GDC (March 9-13) comes a rumor that some gaming companies already have their hands on the development kit for this system—claimed to be a new DS. The DS2, what some people are calling it, is said to be out by the end of this year, according to the rumor.

Nintendo Power Showing Off Wii 2 – Say Its A Mistake

Posted by james On February 13, 2010

I do not know what to think of this, except for the fact its very funny to happen now with all the rumors of a new Wii system going around. I do believe its an honest mistake, but you could never know. Nintendo Power claims it is a simple Photoshop mistake. What do you think?

Someone (it may have been me, I don’t remember) gathered a bunch of Nintendo-related images from wherever we could find them (such as the web) since we didn’t have access to Nintendo’s press site at that point, and I think we took the “Wii 2″ one without noticing it had been altered. It was forgotten and left on our server, where it later got mixed in with our library of real assets once we started doing the magazine.

Here at purenintendo.com, we hope it’s not all about us rambling, and rambling, on and on, about games. Truthfully, I hate hearing myself ramble, and I’m sure you getting tired of it as well. Don’t lie, I will not be offended.

We like to think of ourselves as a community where Nintendo fans can come together and discuss all things Nintendo. This will become a lot easier for you guys to do in the near future ;)  Wait, what does that mean? You will just have to wait and see to find out.

Purenintendo reader TheCode, came up with this brilliant interpretation of what the Official Nintendo Magazine was teasing in their next issue. Here is what the magazine said:

”That’s right – I suggest you mark 12 March in your diaries now, as we have something very special lined up. That’s all I can say for now, so until then, enjoy the mag!” – Official Nintendo Magazine

Here is what TheCode came up with:

You see, first of all, March is the month in which Caesar was betrayed by his friends. I want you to note the key word here, BETRAYAL <—. Secondly, why would they ask us to mark our diaries? Last time I checked we mark important days on a Calendar, not a Diary. Therefore, key word here is DIARIES <—. Thirdly, “That’s all I can say for now”. Notice how the writer is desperate, as if dying to get a message across but can’t because something behind him is about to explode. Key word here, EXPLODE <—. Finally, the writer says enjoy the “mag” and not magazine. Mag as in gun ammunition? Key word, MAG <— Now lets add these words next to each other to see if we get a result. Betrayal, Diaries, Explode, and Mag. The only person who has been betrayed in the Nintendo universe is Samus (By the federation, go play fusion). She also keeps logs of her missions, a.k.a Diaries. Everywhere she goes things (including the planet she’s walking on) explodes. FInally, she carries a big  gun around at all times. Obviously, the announcment is about Metroid: Other M.

After reading this break down of what was said, I am starting to lean to the way of Metroid: Other M.

Thanks to the TheCode for this idea!  Keep it up!

Official Nintendo Magazine teasing something too

Posted by james On February 9, 2010

I wonder if this is the same announcement that the Japanese Nintendo magazine was teasing about for this months issue? (due out later) I guess we will have to wait and see.

Rumor: Nintendo to Announce New Platform at GDC

Posted by justin On February 3, 2010

This is a pretty juicy rumor, but it’s probably just that—a rumor.  According to VideoGamer.com, a ‘major international publisher’ had this to say about a new Nintendo platform:

“Just heard a rumour that you may be interested in: Nintendo are going to announce a new platform at GDC. Some devs have already started work on it.” – Industry Source

“Our contact had no further information about whether the new platform was a handheld, home console or something else. The source also stated that he was sure of the platform’s existence, but that the GDC launch was a less certain possibility.” – VideoGamer

I would definitely take this with a grain of salt, but it’s not too far-fetched.  Remember, if history serves us correctly, Nintendo would be readying a new home console for November 2011 and some developers could have early notice of this.  The very unlikely part of this whole matter is whether Nintendo would send out development kits this early.  If this turns out to be true, I would think the new platform would be the rumored DS2 instead of the Wii successor.  What do you guys think?  Are you more excited for GDC (which runs from March 9-13)?
