Mario’s latest Party game is set to release on the Wii U next month. As the tenth iteration, Mario Party 10 has a long line of predecessors to live up to, with combined sales of the previous nine selling just shy of 40 million units as of December 2014.

Nintendo announced the sales figure on their website recently, stating that:

Mario Party 10 is the first Wii U instalment in the revered Mario Party series, which since its debut – Mario Party – on Nintendo 64 in 1999 has sold over 39.6 million copies globally,

The first Mario party came about in 1998 for the Nintendo 64. The 9 games in the main series were all released on home consoles stretching from the N64 to the Wii, with this tenth outing marking the first for Wii U. Additionally, there have been several Mario Party games on Nintendo’s handheld platforms, namely the GameBoy Advance, DS, and 3DS, that fall outside the main series.

Mario Party 10 will bring new features to the series, such as amiibo support and a new Bowser Party mode, plus a whole host of new minigames of course.

Mario Party 10 will be released on March 20 in the US and Europe, and March 12 in Japan.
