This is a very weird (in a good way) and interesting move for Nintendo. They are not ones to really go out and purchase other companies. Lets see what happens with this.

Nintendo has acquired video codec provider Mobiclip, with the aim to utilize its video compression technology for upcoming games on its Nintendo 3DS and Wii U consoles.

It acquired the Paris, France-based company back in October last year, but has just now made the acquisition public knowledge. Mobiclip also has offices in Tokyo, Singapore and California.

Mobiclip has previously provided its video technology for a variety of Nintendo platforms, including the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS. Its services allow for high-quality video with low battery consumption.
