As another week begins, Nintendo reveals the next round of releases for the European eShop. This week sees a massive list of games on offer, including Oddworld, retro Pokémon, and a myriad of discounts across the Wii U and 3DS.

Wii U eShop

  • Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! (Oddworld Inhabitants, 15.99/ £11.99 until 25th February, normally €19.99 / £14.99) – a ground-up remake of the original 1997 Oddworld game Abe’s Oddysee, this puzzle platformer finally makes its way to the Wii U after hitting other systems last year. The sidescrolling gameplay remains similar to the original, with an enhanced 2.5D graphical style.
  • Discovery (Noowanda, €6.99/ £5.99) – this latest Minecraft-style sandbox game doesn’t have a survival mode, but does include a detailed and enjoyable creation mode at a reasonable price.
  • Jones on Fire (Joindots, €5.99/ £4.59 ) – this platformer comes with blocky, retro-styled visuals and boasts ‘frenetic’ gameplay with elements of firefighting.

Wii U Virtual Console

  • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (Nintendo, €6.99/ £6.29) – this was the first entry in the series and launched on the Game Boy Advance in 2005, kicking off the dungeon crawling gameplay now familiar to the series.
  • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (Nintendo, €9.99/ £8.99) – this 2005 DS entry was released alongside its Red equivalent, using a dual-screen option to battle your way through randomly generated dungeons.

  • Dementium Remastered (Renegade Kid, €14.99/ £13.49) – remastered from the DS by Renegade Kid comes this first person survival horror experience, with enhanced graphics and new difficulty settings, including a Demented mode for hardcore fans of the series.
  • Alphadia (Kemco, €9.99/ £8.99) – a traditional RPG that serves as a sequel/spin-off to Alphadia Genesis on Wii U. The Energi War serves as part of the plot’s backdrop again, but this traditional RPG has a new cast and plotline, with a promise of accessibility for newcomers and 30+ hours in the adventure.
  • The Legend of Dark Witch 2 (CIRCLE Entertainment, €6.99/ £5.59) – featuring the same core action platforming gameplay as its predecessor with eight stages to tackle.

3DS Retail Download

  • Project X Zone 2 (Bandai Namco, €39.99/ £29.99) – this sequel combines characters and franchises from Bandai Namco, SEGA and Capcom in a choatic RPG, with Monolith Soft and Nintendo also contributing Xenoblade and Fire Emblem characters.
  • Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight (NIS America, €39.99/ £34.99) – a re-imagining of the DS original, with plenty of free and paid DLC also thrown in.

  • Bravely Second: End Layer Demo: The Ballad of the Three Cavaliers (Square Enix, free) – This demo focusing on the Three Cavaliers – Yew Geneolgia, Janne Angard, and Nikolai Nikolanikov – will act as a prelude to the adventure, and even allow players to unlock rewards in the full version of the game, depending on their progress in the demo. The Bravely Second: End Layer demo: The Ballad of the Three Cavaliers can be completed multiple times, however only a completed save file can be used to unlock rewards in the full game.
