Another week dawns and with it comes the news of Europe’s latest downloadable delights for the eShop. This week brings with it a heap of Virtual Console releases for the Wii U and new Home themes for the 3DS, along with plenty of discounts and a few other new releases for good measure.

Wii U Virtual Console

  • Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones (Arc System Works, €4.99 / £3.49) – originally released on the NES in 1991 comes the classic beat ’em up action following the Lee brothers. This time, the pair punch and kick their way across the world in search of the Sacred Stones of Power in an effort to rescue Marion from the clutches of a mysterious new enemy.
  • Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (Koei Tecmo, €4.99 / £3.49) – coming from 1990 (actually, 1994 in Europe) is the second part of this NES series, featuring fiendishly difficult platforming action.
  • Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (Koei Tecmo, €4.99 / £3.49) – the final entry of the original trilogy came to the NES in 1991 – though not released in Europe – bringing with it more tough platforming action.
  • The Adventures of Bayou Billy (Konami, €4.99 / £3.49) – more NES goodness, this time from 1988 (1991 in Europe). This one is maybe less of a classic, but certainly pays homage to 80s-style action flicks, with beat ’em up sequences combined with driving and shooting segments. Originally using the NES Zapper, this version will support the Wii Pointer in the shooting sections.
