  • Nintendo Rejects My Plea For New Wrist Straps

Posted September 12th @ 10:48 pm by jahiggin

As you may or may not know, Nintendo has a new version of the Wii wrist strap, with cool little locking clips. Well, I put in a request at Nintendo.com for my own cool little locking clip straps. This is what they emailed me back:

    Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Wii Remote wrist straps. The free replacement offer for straps was made available for consumers who had purchased their Wii Remotes back in November and December of 2006 and received the original version of the strap. If you have a later version of the strap, it is not necessary to replace them with the most current version. More information on the original strap replacement offer is available at:

If my straps are good enough for Nintendo I guess they’re good enough for me. It would have been cool to have those locking straps. Have any of you out there tried this yet? What success have you had?

Happy National Video Game Day!!! (US)

Posted September 12th @ 3:05 pm by jahiggin

Celebrate National Video Games Day by playing video games. If you are off from school (or if you are a big kid off from work), make this a marathon day for video games. Better still, invite a few friends and hold a competition. Just make certain that you have enough controllers.

Come one and all!!! Play your video games!! Play those game that you were almost finished with but haven’t yet. Play those old throw back games that take you back to a simpler time. Just play something video gamewise. Heck, it’s a national holiday. It would be un-American if you didn’t.

33% of Wii owners are women

Posted September 11th @ 9:54 pm by jahiggin

Market researcher NPD says 41 percent of gamers in the United States are female, and Nintendo says that 33 percent of the Wii’s purchasers are women. On average, females have been playing for eight years, compared to 10 years for males, according to the Entertainment Software Association….. This year, Disney Interactive showed off several big efforts aimed at girls with its High School Musical, Hannah Montana and Disney Princess brands. Electronic Arts also came up with several original titles that appeal to girls and boys for the Nintendo Wii, including titles such as “EA Playground,” “MySims,” “EA Smartypants Trivia” and “EA Boogie.” It also scored kudos for “Rock Band,” a title aimed at the older set that riffs off the craze for “Guitar Hero.”

David Braben: Manhunt 2 damages the industry

Posted September 9th @ 8:43 pm by jahiggin

“I think at the root of this problem is that there’s still an expectation among parents that ESRB/PEGI/BBFC ratings can be ignored - possibly based on their experience of games when they were younger. There have been a few games that have strange ratings like Gears of War (18). That does not make sense to me. Why is it not a 15? Okay, there are some slightly gruesome bodies hanging up in the first section of the game, but this is no more than you’d expect in a 15 film like Alien Vs Predator or The Terminator films. This means that when a more genuine 18 comes along, parents assume it is no worse than Gears of War, and is perhaps why Manhunt 2 was banned, as they felt they could not give it the same rating as Gears. Having said that, from what I’ve heard of Manhunt 2 (I haven’t had the chance to play it), it is not the sort of game the industry should be making, as it is inevitably going to attract controversy. While Manhunt 2 might have brought short term gain to Rockstar, it damages the reputation of the industry as a whole, long term. We do need a strong, consistent rating system, where 18 really means 18, and is enforced, and then it may be more acceptable to make such games, or to bring in an additional rating (as in the US) of Adults Only - which are only sold in very restricted places.” - Frontier Developments boss David Braben

I am going to leave my opinion to myself.  I am wondering what you guys think?

    A Blast From The Past

Posted September 7th @ 9:55 pm by jahiggin

The other day I was checking out my lovely hometown of Cartersville, GA. When I came across a game trading store in all its retroness, “GameFrenzy.” To my surprise I found many old games from the, NES, SNES, to the Game Gear. Also sitting in a case, in all its glory, was an NES for 40 bucks, with the option of purchasing the Blaster Gun. and a SNES for 60 bucks. All in amazing condition I might add. I snapped a few pics with my camera phone, for your own viewing pleasure.

Warning: Viewing this may bring on a strong feeling of nostalgia. View with care.
