Hands-on: EA’s Skate-It (DS and Wii)
Wii Version
One of the most amazing third-party Wii games at E3 was EA’s Skate It. The game carries a lot in common with last year’s Skate for the 360 and PS3. The storyline revolves around a disaster that happens in the city from the first Skate. The entire city is now in ruins and your character gets to skate wherever they want. EA really wanted to emphasize an open environment where the players could skate virtually anywhere and anyway they want to.
The demo of the game consisted of one basic area in the heart of the ruined city. All the main elements for a skating game were there: gaps, jumps, verts, fun boxes, rails, and all sorts of skatable rubble. First, I got to try the game using just the Wii Remote. Every move and button can be mapped to only the Wii remote, and it basically controls just like a skateboard. To turn left, tilt the Wiimote left. To ollie, flick the Wii remote up. It’s very intuitive and easy to get used to grinding and performing tricks to string together multiple lines. The game’s scoring system is based on how many tricks you can do within a given ‘line’. There are all sorts of combo multipliers and linking varied tricks can lead to a lot of points.

IGN Nintendo Voice Chat Ep. 15: Summary
Facebreaker
- “Party version of Facebreaker,” but title is misleading (not really minigames)
- Graphics look great - art style is impressive, moves nicely
- Gameplay has a lot of promise also, but Matt wasn’t able to play it long
- Shot from the sideview, still a 3D boxing game
- Very fast, arcadey
Skate It
- Still not a lot of gameplay available in the version Matt + Daemon played
- Will be a learning curve, but it’ll be a “cool” way to play a skateboarding game - Daemon
- Programmed intuitively
- Grinding all about timing
- Visually not too impressive
- Framerate needs to be up and running - lag won’t be good for the game
The American Gamer’s Bill of Rights
I meant to post this yesterday, but I forgot.
As an American Gamer; you have the right to:
1 - Purchase any and all hunting games, regardless of their 100% negative reviews.
2 - Cry, whine and beg a Japanese company to release your favorite, obscure RPG in the US and when the game finally arrives, opt not to actually purchase the game; thus screwing those of us who actually want quality games to be released in various regions.
3 - Purchase a Nintendo Wii “for the family” and secretly play it each and every night after the kids go to sleep.
4 - Scream at your TV, Monitor or Handheld for any reason (or no reason at all!)
5 - Complain that Nintendo games are “unrealistic” and/or “too cartoony” whilst somehow justifying gunfights in space as “lifelike” and additionally depriving yourself of numerous quality titles.
6 - Sell your used video games and systems to Gamestop for 15% of their actual worth only to find yourself buying them back on Ebay three years later at 115% their original price.
7 - Name a character in an RPG after the male genitalia.
8 - Brag about your Goldeneye, Smash Brothers 64, or Street Fighter Turbo skills to any and all who will listen because you know you’ll most likely never have to back up your talk.
9 - Get excited about and continue to purchase games with numbers in their titles… every single year for “the new stats”.
10 - Wildly shoot at the dog in Duck Hunt.
…with liberty and justice for all.
