During today’s Nintendo Direct, five new stages for both the Wii U and 3DS have been announced.  Nintendo has decided to go old-school with three stages directly from Smash‘s Nintendo 64 era: Peach’s Castle, Dreamland, and Hyrule Castle.  Aside from the aesthetic upgrade, these stages are essentially untouched reproductions of the originals.  These stages can be purchased for $1.99 each ($2.99 if you get the Wii U/3DS bundle).

Smash Bros will also release a completely free stage: Miiverse.  The level has a simple layout, but the twist is the messages which appear in the background.  Nintendo has set up a Miiverse community where fans can post about their favorite characters.  These posts will then appear in the stage, depending on the character fighting.

Finally, we have Suzaku Castle, which will be bundled with newcomer, Ryu, from Street Fighter.  Like Ryu, Suzaku Castle has a unique twist.  At the 30 second mark, the stage’s music will change, just like it would in Street Fighter.
