Developers Atlus have posted a new trailer for upcoming 3DS game, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse.

Previously released in Japan last February, this sequel to 2013’s Shin Megami Tensei IV follows the story of humans caught in a war between higher deities. One lone hunter meets an early demise only to be resurrected by a lesser god in exchange for his servitude. The hunter allies with others in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Tokyo in a story that crosses over with the events of the original Shin Megami Tensei IV.

Features of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse include:

  • The Eternal Struggle Between Gods – main characters must decide which side of peace or anarchy they are on.
  • Partner Up for Success – A new twist to the combat formula allows players to bring one of seven partners to battle (in addition to the standard three demons), each with their own unique skills and AI. Plus, partners will fill up a meter that will interrupt the enemy, do massive damage, and give players an extra turn.
  • Demons Aplenty – the game includes a series record of over 450 demons to fight, fuse, or recruit to player parties.
  • Fuse For Affinities – demon fusion is the cornerstone of the Shin Megami Tensei series and now demons will have affinities for certain skills, giving players more decisions to make about which skills fusions will inherit.
  • Press Turns and Smirking – the Press Turn system returns, giving extra turns for exploiting weaknesses. The Smirk system returns as well, giving huge offensive and defensive boosts, plus now unlocking bonuses for certain skills, such as insta-kill attacks.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse will be released in the US this Summer. In the meantime, check out the trailer above and let us know your thoughts on this apocalyptic RPG title.
