According to Nikkei – who has a good record in reporting news- Nintendo will stop production of the Wii U sometime this year. With some accessories already ending production.
Ending production of the Wii U doesn’t confirm an NX release this year, just a release soon. Nintendo could decide to cut production in the fall and ride their surplus of systems into 2017.
It is assumed we will hear more about Nintendo’s next system, currently called the NX, during the June Electronic Entertainment Expo.

I’m excited about the NX .. but still sad that the Wii U underperformed. Everyone I know who has one, knows it’s a great system with superb games. Still, bring on E3!
