Another week brings with it another round of releases for the Wii U and 3DS eShop in Europe. This week sees a massive list of titles hitting your system, including two long-awaited major releases, Virtual Console treats, discounts, DLC, themes for your 3DS and much more in between.

Wii U eShop

  • Thomas Was Alone (Mike Bithell / Curve Studios, €7.99 / £6.99) – a puzzle platformer narrated by UK comedian/actor Danny Wallace, this tale of exploration, friendship and survival uses a simple art style to convey a touching soundtrack and plot.
  • Pier Solar and the Great Architects (WaterMelon, $14.99) – an HD release of the original Mega Drive RPG that holds a sizeable adventure for fans of classic RPGs.
  • Ittle Dew (Ludosity, €9.99 / £8.99) – the adventures of Ittle Dew and her companion Tippsy in a top-down adventure with some hints at mature humor, foraging its own identity whilst drawing heavily from The Legend of Zelda series.
  • Shiny The Firefly (Padaone Games, 6.99 / £6.29 until 31st December, regular price will be €9.99 / £8.99) – a colorful puzzle adventure to suit younger gamers, where you’ll help a firefly find and rescue his babies within a crowded and dangerous garden.

Wii U Virtual Console

  • Breath of Fire (Capcom, €7.99 / £5.49) – hailing from 1993, this SNES title was the first in the Breath of Fire series of RPGs, and sees you saving the world with recurring characters, Ryu and Nina. Ryu holds the power to transform into different types of dragons in this medieval fantasy world.

Wii U Retail Downloads

  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Nintendo, €59.99 / £49.99) – with US Smash fans already glued to their GamePads, Europeans will get their chance to join the fray with the release of one of this year’s most hotly anticipated titles. This is the home console version of the fourth generation of the fighting franchise and boasts an enormous roster, broad variety of stages and new and returning modes, along with substantial support for the amiibo range of figures. Thankfully the game more than lives up to expectations, explained in our Super Smash Bros. for Wii U review – we’ll also be updating this once we’ve sampled online play. Note: game is released November 28.
  • Penguins of Madagascar (Little Orbit, €39.99 / £34.99)

Wii U DLC

  • Hyrule Warriors Twilight Princess Pack (Koei Tecmo, €6.99 / £6.29): A new Adventure Mode map (Twilight-covered Hyrule) with six new 8-bit weapons and sixteen new alternatively-coloured costumes as rewards
    • A new playable character (Midna in her true Twili form)
    • A new weapon type for Zelda (Dominion Rod)
    • Two new costumes (Ilia’s Clothes for Zelda and Postman Uniform for Link)

  • BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (Choice Provisions, €3.99 / £3.33 until 11th December, normally €11.99 / £9.99)

  • Castle Conqueror EX (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.49) – this remastered classic makes modest improvements over the original, making it worthwhile for newcomers to this solid real-time strategy game.
  • Talking Phrasebook: 7 Languages (Sanuk Games, €4.99 / £4.49) – designed to help you with key languages on your travels and includes English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch.
  • My First Songs (Ringzero Games, €4.99 / £4.49) – a singing game for toddlers including 15 songs.

3DS Virtual Console

  • Pokémon Puzzle Challenge (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49) – originally hitting the Game Boy Color in 2001 (2000 in the US) this puzzler serves up six different modes of tile-related puzzling.

3DS Retail Downloads

  • Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (Nintendo, €44.99 / £39.99) – originally released for the Game Boy Advance, these titles utilise the Pokémon X & Y engine and introduce many new features to make them more than just remakes, such as new Mega Evolutions, the Soar ability and even new story elements.
  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (Atlus, €39.99 / £34.99) – the first Persona title to hit a Nintendo console, this dungeon crawler blends characters of the third and fourth games into a new art style. This is a lengthy and complex RPG using Etrian Odyssey-style gameplay.
  • Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom (Little Orbit, €29.99 / £24.99)
  • Penguins of Madagascar (Little Orbit, €29.99 / £24.99)
