The Wii U is now two years old and its arrival in 2012 ushered in more unique experiences to gaming akin to the Wii or DS.  As many Nintendo fans and industry personalities already know, the Wii U didn’t begin life too well with a library of games that many thought was weak and a name, and even concept, that wasn’t very clear.  Many even felt that the Wii U was surely going to flop and that Nintendo should just give up.  Fast forward to today and sales of the console are still steady, thanks to some big releases, and there is still much more to come.

I never personally felt like the Wii U never had much to offer.  Even after picking up the Wii U at launch, I felt that there was a good selection of games to choose from and a variety of options.  There were definitely a few times where I felt there was not enough major releases for the Wii U but that is when I felt like indie games or other releases filled in the gaps quite nicely.  There was and still is a large amount of third-party developers and publishers that are just ignoring the Wii U like the awkward kid in school but the Wii U keeps on chugging.

This past year the Wii U has seen many major releases of flagship franchises. Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. just to name a few.  On top of that Nintendo has brought a lot of new content to Wii U in 2014.  Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, and Captain Toad to name a few more.  This is in addition to the incredible indie support and gamut of small independent releases that have begun to flood the eShop this year.  In 2015 Nintendo is not backing down.

Next year there is yet another slew of what will surely be another great year of quality Nintendo releases to up the value of owning a Wii U.  Yoshi’s Woolly World, Kirby and The Rainbow Curse, Splatoon, and most likely the new, highly anticipated Legend of Zelda.  Once again this mix of flagship titles, new experiences using Nintendo’s extensive line up of characters, and brand new IP are more reasons why people should pick up a Wii U now.

There is much more that is coming for the Wii U in 2015 outside of Nintendo’s first-party releases.  Many more than I can even discuss at length here.  Nintendo will be surely announcing even more for Wii U at next year’s E3 and even possibly before then during one of their many Nintendo Direct presentations.  If you have not already bought a Wii U for whatever reason, now would definitely be the time.  There are a ton of great games on the Wii U, both major releases and small, affordable experiences.  The Wii U is two and seems to have really hit its stride.
