“Rangers, you must act swiftly, the planet is in grave danger!”

I probably get more excited about Power Rangers than I should, but seriously.  Power Rangers is the coolest.  So you can imagine my giddiness today when Namco Bandai announced a 3DS game for the current installment of the franchise, Power Rangers MEGAFORCE.  I find it notable–and awesome–that this is part of Power Rangers’ 20th anniversary.  It’s kind of insane that Power Rangers has been going on this long.

It’s looking like pretty standard Power Rangers fare, a side-scrolling beat ’em up.  It will also use the 3DS’s camera to take a picture of you so you can see yourself morph into a Power Ranger.  Gimmicky?  Definitely.  Kinda cool?  Also definitely.

The Power Rangers Continue to Protect Earth from Evil in All-New Video Game This Autumn

CERGY-PONTOISE, FRANCE – 11th April 2013 – NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. today announced that Power Rangers MEGAFORCE® for the Nintendo 3DS™ will be heading to retailers in EMEA and Australasia. The side-scrolling, action-packed video game will be based on the popular television series of the same title and allow fans to play as the Power Rangers Megaforce and defend Earth against the evil Warstar aliens.

United as one dynamic team, the Power Rangers provide their boundless support, advice and encouragement as players battle their way through challenge after challenge. The Rangers’ vocal and physical support will prove timely as certain situations or conditions arise in the side-scrolling adventure.
Power Rangers MEGAFORCE will also plunge players into suspenseful battles with various Megazords, implementing powerful combos and finishing moves during iconic, larger-than-life Power Rangers action.

Also in Power Rangers MEGAFORCE, players will be able to utilize the Nintendo 3DS camera to take a picture and watch themselves actively morph into their favorite Megaforce Ranger to fend off enemy encounters with their own hands.
