Nintendo has released sales data related to their latest major release, Super Mario Odyssey.
The game, which was released on October 27 around the world, has sold over 1.1 million copies in just the first five day in the US, according to Nintendo. This puts the Switch game ahead of the previous best seller, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which sold about 1.3 million copies in its first two weeks.
This massive number has meant more hardware sales, and Nintendo has increased its supply of Switch consoles to match the demand through the upcoming holiday period. According to Nintendo, the total number of Switch sales in the US through the end of October is over 2.6 million.
It’s no surprise that Super Mario Odyssey is as successful as it is, with a Metacritic rating of 97 and 43 perfect scores. In fact, it’s the best-reviewed game on any system in the past three years, tied only with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The game has already been enjoyed by well over a million people, and is likely to be enjoyed by many more, as those early players continue to spread their excitement for Mario. On Metacritic.com, which aggregates scores from certain reviewers, for example, the game currently has a critical review average of 97, with 43 perfect scores. This makes Super Mario Odyssey the best-reviewed game on Metacritic for any system of the last three years, tied only with Nintendo Switch launch game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
