This is a discussion that I never thought was a discussion. Why would anyone think that video games were not art, and the people who create them were not artist? Here is the Dictionary definition of art:

the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

What is aesthetic principles? Here is a brief summary:

The aesthetic experience consists in enjoying a thing for its intrinsic beauty, for what it is in itself. The nature of this enjoyment is not, however, uniform. It is differentiated by whichever emotions are predominant when that thing is being experienced, and some emotion is always aroused when a person is intimately engaged with a thing.

I am not sure but I believe that video games bring me joy, and send me through a ton of emotions. Do you remember how you felt in the first Mario each time you defeated a Castle and the princess was in the next castle? Do you remember what you felt when you finally saved that princess? There is a lot more I can say, but it would only be my opinion.
