Apple: DS In The Past
“There are already so many games [for the iPhone and iPod Touch], and as we look at it, to us, it really seems this is the future of gameplay. Whereas a lot of these devices [Nintendo DS and Sony PSP] are more in the past. The computer power and the 3D graphic power here is significantly greater than what you have here [picks up DS]. So, this allows people to do significantly higher quality games.” – Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPod and iPhone Product Marketingf
I do not own a iphone or an itouch. Does anyone who own one of these like to chime in?

I love my iPhone. I have it with me at all times. I even sleep with it. I don’t know how I could live my life without my iPhone. But it will never replace my DS. There are some cool games for the iPhone, but they don’t even compare to all the great games for the DS. The iPhone lacks a D-pad and physical buttons, which I think are very important for a gaming system.

I agree with Eli, the iPhone has some fun little games, but it will never be that ultimate portable gaming system like the DS.
Will you ever have the next great Mario or Zelda game on an iPhone??? absolutely not, you’ll always be stuck with quick 5 min. games that can’t compete with almost every game the DS has to offer.
Also, this guy mentions the 3D power is ‘significantly greater’ than the DS—seems like there’s another portable that made this claim as well, and look how the DS is still trumping the PSP.

Yeah I have to agree with the other people here. I love playing Pokémon on my DS (yes I admit to playing Pokémon and enjoying it) and I would never imagine doing that on the iPhone/iPod touch, or Zelda, or DEFINITELY not Mario. I love my iPod touch and as soon as I can I’m ditching Verizon and buying an iPhone 3G, but it’s never going to replace my DS.
