I also updated my original post from this morning about the new Wii system update. I have just found two more things you can add to the list.

– Improved SD card read/write speed: Check out the video above and see world of good transferred in 30 sec.
– Improved disc reading

I am also getting reports that the homebrew channel is not affected, but some still say it is. Even if it is not, in the new user agreement Nintendo has stated that they are going to do updates in the background with out your knowledge. This is Nintendo attempt to get people who are using the homebrew channel and not updateing their systems.
