ESA Study: More women and adults play video games than ever before

- The average age of a gamer is now 37.
- 72% of Americans play video games
- 42% of gamers are women
- 29% of gamers over the age of 50.
- Average age of game purchasers 41.
- $25.1 billion spent on gaming content: hardware and accessories.
- $5.9 billion spent on digital game content.
- 33% say playing video games is their favorite entertainment activity.
- 65% play video games with people in person. Which is up from 64% from 2010 and 62% from 2009.
- 12 years is the average amount of time an adult gamer has been playing games.
- 91% of the time parents are present when games are purchased
- 86% of the time children receive parents permission to purchase a game.
- 59% of parents believe video games provide more physical activity than 5 years ago.
- 98% believe in the accuracy of the ESRB rating.
- 86% of parents are aware of the ESRB rating system.
- 80% of parents place time limits on video game usage.
- 74% on internet usage.
- 70% on TV
- 65% on movies
- 45% of parents play video games, at least once a week, with their children.
