Mario Kart 8 Takes 2nd Place in May 2014 NPD Charts
This past May has been good for video game sales in the US, as NPD analyst Liam Callahan reported:
Collectively, May 2014 launches sold 800 percent more in dollar sales than May 2013 launches did their respective launch months. New launches represented 50 percent of dollar sales this month, which compared to only 9 percent for new launches in May 2013
Wii U sales have picked up as well, with “…successful bundles for Mario Kart 8…” How much have sales picked up? Somewhere around four-fold, as indicated by Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview with Venture Beat.
While Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs has taken top spot, Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U was not far behind in 2nd place. It is also notable that another Nintendo exclusive, Kirby: Triple Deluxe has taken 9th place in the charts.

Also note that Watch Dogs is selling on FIVE platforms and Mario Kart is on only one.

That is an important note. I am still shocked (not sure why) that Mario Kart 8 sold as many copies as it did on launch weekend. Nintendo is bound to have similar success this holiday when Super Smash Bros. releases for Wii U. I just hope that Super Smash Bros. and other upcoming titles, as shown at E3, entice other gamers to get a Wii U.
