Japanese Sales Chart: Monster Hunter 4 and New 3DS Debut Strongly (Week Ending October 12, 2014)
Another week has passed and the latest sales data for Nintendo’s homeland is in. This was a particularly big week for the big N, as it released its latest handheld iteration, the aptly named New 3DS and New 3DS LL (the Japanese equivalent to the XL).
The new devices sold well and led the hardware charts this week, taking out first and second positions. The New 3DS sold over 70,000 and the LL more than doubled that effort with over 160,000 sales.
The older 3DS and 3DS LL models sold well this week too, with an increase to last weeks sales that can mostly be attributed to the top three software: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Yokai Watch 2. Overall, the 3DS had a very good week in Japan with a combined total of over 260,000 sales across all four platforms (old and New 3DS).
The Wii U suffered in sales this week though, dropping from 7800 to 6300 units. In software, only two titles remain in the top 20, Mario Kart 8 at number 16 and Fatal Frame at number 20.
Check out the full list below and let us know your thoughts on last week in Japan. Are you pleasantly surprised with the New 3DS sales? Do you think the strong sales will continue? We’ll check on the situation again next week.

glad the 3DS is having such strong sales, I wish more publishers invested in 3DS games 😕

A question I have is will Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate have circle pad pro compatibility or will they deliberately leave it out so New 3DS looks more appealing?
