Atlus getting auctioned off, Nintendo potential buyer.
According to a report on the International Digital Times Nintendo could potentially purchase Atlus when it is auctioned off in the near future. Atlus’ current owner, Index Corporation, has been implicated in multiple counts of suspicious business practices and has since had it’s stock delisted from the market and then declared bankruptcy. The current news says Index Corporation’s assets will be split up and sold to the highest bidder, and Nintendo is looking to snap up Atlus.
Nintendo buying Atlus makes perfect sense. The two companies have been working close together lately with Nintendo’s eShop deal, and the exclusive Shin Megami Tensei 4, Etrian Odyssey series, and Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei releases. Nintendo acquiring Atlus would allow for significantly more cooperation in the future, and hopefully many awesome games for the 3DS and Wii U (who desperately needs it). As a huge Atlus fan I couldn’t be more pleased with this idea. Atlus RPGs feel right at home on Nintendo consoles and I would love to see Atlus make an RPG for the Wii U. More details will be uncovered as time goes on but, for now, I’m crossing my fingers.

This is potentially fantastic news for Nintendo fans! Since Working Designs was dissolved, Atlus has become the de facto standard for hardcore JRPGs. It would be great to know I would never again miss a Persona game because it was on a system I did not own.
In addition, acquiring Atlus would help Nintendo broaden it’s image as well as bolster it’s catalog where it has historically been lacking.
Let’s make this happen Nintendo!

I’m changing my Avatar to Jack Frost until this happens.

I’m a bit on the fence. I love Nintendo but I’m a growing Sony fan. So either way, no matter who gets Atlus I’d be fine and I know those two would still leave them with creative freedom. But my heart wants Nintendo to get them more so than Sony. Nintendo needs a strong RPG backer behind them other than the occasional Monolith Soft or Namco games.
