Bayonetta 2 Hands-On Impressions
“This game is…pretty over the top.” This is how I was greeted as I took the Wii U Game Pad at the Bayonetta 2 station. That statement was very accurate. My first question was, “What different weapon sets does she have?” The answer: Guns with more guns in her boots, or swords with whips in her boots. “I’m liking this already,” I thought. And it only got better. The demo I played through consisted of the short-haired Bayonetta fighting while atop a fighter jet, then a flying hunk of concrete. By the end, she just straight up grows a pair of demon wings and fights an infernal demon. Yeah, this is the kind of stuff we’re dealing with in Bayonetta 2.
The action was brutal and fast-paced. Jumping, dodging, throwing enemies into torture devices. A well executed dodge lets you enter Witch Time, where everything around you slows down, giving you more time to inflict hurt on your enemies. You can also charge up a meter of magical power that lets you activate Umbral Climax, where you do more damage and throw around giant shadowy fists.
The game looked really good, Bayonetta is as sassy as ever, and the action was fun and fast-paced. This is definitely a game I’ll be watching out for.
