Nintendo News: U.S. Launch of Glory of Heracles, First Game in Popular Japanese Series, Set for Jan. 18

The wonder of ancient Greece comes to life on Jan. 18, when Glory of Heracles launches exclusively for the portable Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSisystems. The game marks the first in the popular Japanese Heracles series to launch in the United States.

The game is inspired by Greek mythology and written by Kazushige Nojima of Final Fantasy fame. The traditional role-playing game features an engrossing story and a robust battle system. Players can roam the countryside as they encounter new characters and gain experience, or they can visit familiar ancient settings like Athens and Sparta.

Nintendo Sells More Than 1.5 Million Hardware Units During Critical Thanksgiving Week

More than 2.5 Video Game Systems Sold Every Second during Week as Value-Minded Holiday Shoppers Look to Nintendo

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo’s internal tracking numbers show that the company sold more than 1.5 million Wii™, Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ video game systems combined in the United States during Thanksgiving Week. That works out to more than 150 Nintendo systems sold every minute continuously for the week – or more than 2.5 every second.

Nintendo estimates that during the week:

  • more than 550,000 Wii home consoles sold, demonstrating that consumers nationwide have responded to the new suggested retail price of $199.99.
  • more than 1 million Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi portable systems sold. This number surpasses the all-time hand-held hardware sales record set by Game Boy™ Advance during Thanksgiving Week 2002.
