24 hours of FIFA 10 gaming for a Guinness World Record

A new type of Guinness World Record was born yesterday (28th Jan) morning and its completion is likely to set the trend for a whole new global wave of similar feats of mental and physical endurance.

At 10.09am at London’s Victoria Station, the final whistle was blown on www.stryxa.com ’s unique 24 hour FIFA 10 gaming world record, which saw 9 of the 10 original participants set the Guinness World Record for the longest football videogame marathon on the UK’s premier football computer game.

Is Caldera the whole land and not just the city?

Let’s talk about the world of Red Steel 2 a little.

Caldera is a city in what is generally known as the “Nevada Territories”. It’s kinda northwest of Las Vegas, off the beaten path a bit, in what’s affectionately known as the “High Desert” (a.k.a. the Mojave Desert) – an elevated, hot, flat, chunk of the Rocky Mountains.

The land surrounding Caldera is named “Caldera County” as well, and one big crater was the most interesting landmark (a “caldera”, for the curious, is another word for a big sinkhole or crater).

So, no, Caldera isn’t the whole land. The “world” of Red Steel 2 is the Red West.

In fact, “the Red West” is a phrase used to describe the whole western part of North America.

House of Lords Committee backs TIGA’s Tax Break Campaign

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, said today that the House of Lords Communications Committee had effectively backed TIGA’s campaign for Games Tax Relief. The Committee published its first report into The British Film and Television Industries today. Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, made the case for a games production tax credit in evidence to the Committee in July 2009, together with other industry figures, including TIGA member Simon Gardner, CEO of Climax Studios.

The House of Lords Communications Committee said:
“We recognise the claims of the videogames industry for support in the face of foreign government-subsidised competition, and recommend that the Government consider providing tax incentives for videogames production.”
