Dragon Fantasy Book I Coming to 3DS
Developers Muteki have announced that the first of their Dragon Fantasy series is now on its way to the 3DS. Touted as a retro-style RPG, gameplay includes lengthy treasure-filled dungeons reminiscent of games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Lufia.
Here’s the lowdown straight from the desk of Muteki:
We’ve talked about this a few times now but it’s time to make it official. The original Dragon Fantasy game (occassionally known as Dragon Fantasy Book I) is coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop!
We’re in the final testing phases before submission and cannot wait to get this out and in your hands.
There are plenty of new features set to come with the 3DS version, many of which will be accessed using the bottom screen:
- Quest log
- In-game map
- Removal of most random battles, now only present on the world map, where monsters will be visible and will take a step each time the player does
- Purchasing of multiple items at once
- Bestiary to track defeats
- Improved inventory system with sorting and filtering
- Ability for hero Ogden to gain allies, so he doesn’t have to grind all by his lonesome
- SNES-like graphics in 3D
The game was originally released on iOS in 2011 and has since seen versions appear on many other devices, namely Mac, PC, Android, PS3 and PS Vita. With one sequel (Book II) already released and another in the works, there could be more in store for the 3DS if Book I proves to be a popular release.
We’ll keep you posted on a release date when it’s announced. In the meantime, check out a couple of screen shots below, and let us know if you’re interested in playing this on your 3DS when it hits your region.

Wow, good call on the Lufia comparison, aesthetically and the step-for-step monster movement. The Lufia games were some of my favorite back on the SNES, so I’ll definitely be picking this one up. Let’s hope it is not bug-ridden like the American release of Rise of the Sinestrals!

One of Adam’s favourite games is Lufia, and it definitely had an influence on the game’s look and feel. In fact, when he originally showed “Talisman” (the precursor to what became Dragon Fantasy) to Natsume, they also spotted the similarities! XD
