It’s been years since we talked about former Senator Leland Yee, mostly because I was tired of talking about him. In a twist of irony, which can only be found in things like, well, video games, 66-year old Lee has admitted to extortion, bribes, and once offering to smuggle weapons from the Philippians to an undercover FBI agent.
As part of a plea agreement, Yee pleaded guilty to racketeering. With this Yee could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.
LEE was arrested in March, 2014, during an FBI raid.
According to police documents Yee and accomplice Keith Jackson tried to raise campaign funds for both Yee’s Secretary of State campaign and his run for Mayor by seeking donations from undercover FBI agents.

When politicians try to attack the video game industry it is always a paper tiger whose only real goal is to garner votes from “concerned parents”. This will become more and more rare as the population ages because most parents today grew up with video games and understand the reality of the situation. When I was a teenager it was Joe Liberman (ineffectually) leading the charge. The fact is that every type of media goes through this: offensive heavy metal and rap lyrics, movies where the bad guys win, and “Oh my gosh, the way that Elvis shakes his hips!”
