GameStop expecting Wii price cut
“That assumes that there will be price cuts on the PS3 and potentially one on the Wii. It’s hard to tell if we actually need a price cut on the Wii to get to our numbers. There are some price cuts built into that assumption, but not until the third quarter. I think as I said initially, the hardware price points where they’re at right now, given this economic environment are potentially too high or are too high, and that if the platform holders are going to make the numbers that they forecasted for the year, those prices would have to change.” – CEO Daniel Dematteo
In my opinion I wouldn’t be surprised to see a price drop by the end of the year for the holiday season. Even though the Wii is still selling strong, it has seen an decline in sales. To keep the momentum I see Nintendo giving shoppers another reason to buy it, a cheaper price tag.

I don’t think Nintendo has to do a price cut. The Wii is still selling relatively strong for how long it’s been on the market and how many people have already bought one. I don’t see a cut happening. Maybe during the holidays, but I think they should just crank out some great games and they won’t have to touch their price tags.

Yeah, I agree Ben and James, and if anything, releasing bundles for the Wii would be more likely than a $229 or less price tag. They could even do bundles with Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports Resort, or Mario Kart to really get sales going, but there’s no real need for a price cut yet.
