GDC 09: Play from SD Card Update Released for Wii
It looks like Nintendo has finally released an update for WiiWare and Virtual Console purchases to be played off an SD card! The update was released just today during Iwata’s GDC keynote in San Francisco. Reports are also coming in that 8GB SD cards are supported in this update as well (the previous limit was 2GB).
Update 3: 16GB and 32GB cards supported as well

Update: Confirmation of playing games off of SD card—Just updated my Wii
Information:
- New Option: SD Card Menu
- Opens into a completely new menu listing the channels on the SD Card
- You can play any games off of the SD card
- Save games have to be moved to the Wii’s memory though

awesome! but i wonder what this means in terms of piracy for the VC?

I’m sure Nintendo has thought of this and solved the problem, for now. The question is how long.

haha ya, it just seems that since they are doing this it will make the wii an easier target to pirate VC games. and with the size that the HCSD cards can go to I wouldn’t be surprised to see full games being pirated through that SD port

Very Cool, does anyone know if we can use any SD card or does it have to be the ones designed for the Wii?
