I have to say that I agree with part of what Mr. Beck is saying. What do you expect will happen when kids play games such as GTA or other games that have the character killing cops and civilians. It warps the mind, especially for children, whose minds are still developing. Note that he didn’t say that we should ban games, he even pointed out that he didn’t want to ban this stuff. He was calling for awareness. Now, I have to disagree with him clumping all video games into a “gateway drug” category. I mean, seriously, what’s wrong with Minecraft? If anyone can tell me that goomba-stomping, kart-racing, metroid-shooting, barrel-throwing and even moblin-slicing games have ever caused you to want to pick up a gun and shoot people, I’ll retract my disagreement. But that’s one reason that I will always choose Nintendo over others. Sure, I own a Playstation 3. I’ve played LA Noire, Left for Dead, Call of Duty and even a little GTA, and I have never tried to resort to gun violence for any reason. But when it comes to titles like Super Mario Galaxy, A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and pretty much any other Nintendo title, I can easily say, without worry, that it is a game that I would let my kids play.
VIRTUAL REALITY! It’s not real. Seriously? It’s like saying that because I play Legend of Zelda, then I’m going to go stab chickens. No. I play Mario but I don’t stomp on turtles. I play Metroid but I’m not a bounty hunter. I play Wii Sports but I don’t play baseball. I personally think that it’s just a way for the media to get attention.
