How-to: Connecting your Wii to the Internet
A lot of the best features on the Wii are internet based, so it’s more than a good thing that setting up your connection is fairly simple. And, better yet, it can connect through both WiFi and ethernet. So here are some tips to help you get this started. It may seem complicated but, it’s actually pretty easy and once it’s done, you get to go online whenever you want. It’s also cool to download upgrades or even check the weather.
Here are a few options on how to get connected.
Now.. let’s get started.
You will be connecting your Nintendo Wii to the Internet via WiFi
- Step 1: Turn on your Nintendo Wii by plugging it in and pressing the power button.
- Step 2: Hit the “A” button on your Wii controller to continue from the warning screen.
- Step 3: Select the “Wii” button in the left corner of the main menu by using your Wii remote to move the cursor over the “Wii” button, and pressing the “A” button on the controller, to select the Wii options.
- Step 4: Click the “Wii Settings” box on the right.
- Step 5: Select the left arrow to scroll to more options. Then, select “Internet” from the list and “Connection Settings.”
- Step 6: Choose an open connection by selecting the “Connection 3: None” option, then the “Wireless Connection” option, and the “Search for an Access Point Option.”
- Step 7: Choose the access point you want to use from the list. Save the settings by clicking “OK.” Then click “OK” to start a connection test. When the test is done you’re all set.
Connect a Nintendo Wii to the Internet (with a Wii LAN Adapter) – You do need an extra piece of equipment (the adapter), but they’re never more than $30.
- Step 1: Insert the Wii LAN Adapter into the USB port on the back of the console.
- Step 2: Connect an Ethernet cable from your modem or router to the adapter.
- Step 3: Turn on the Wii console.
- Step 4: Click the “Wii” options button in the lower left hand corner. Select the “Wii Settings” option by clicking on the left square. Scroll to list more options by clicking on the blue arrow to the left of the screen. Choose “Internet” from the list of options.
- Step 5: Select “Connection Status,” then “Connection 3: None” and “Wired Connection.”
- Step 6: Click “OK” to initiate the connection test. When the test is done you should be connected.
