Graham Markay, Project Manager (Natsume), was kind enough to take some questions from us on the yet-to-be-released Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream.  Be sure to read the full interview to see how Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream plans to be the most fun and realistic fishing game yet. 

1. How exactly are the Wii Remote and Nunchuk used for gameplay?

Players can play Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream using the Wii Remote as the
rod and the Nunchuk as the reel.  Depending on the player’s preferences,
it is also possible to just use the Wii Remote as the rod and use the
buttons for reeling in.  By moving the Wii Remote up, down, left and
right, the player can control the rod. We wanted to give the players the
most realistic gameplay experience, but allow the controls to be flexible
to fit with each player’s style of play.   The controls are done is such a
way that even a novice player can master them, but there’s a lot of nuance
there that offers depth and challenge for even the most hardcore fishing
fans.

2. Could you explain a little bit about the multiplayer aspect of the game?

Up to four players can play together on the same screen in Versus Mode.
There are a variety of different stages the players can compete in, with a
variety of salt and fresh water fish.  Matches are customizable so that it
can fit with any family’s style of play.

3. Is there online multiplayer or WiiConnect24 support?

Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream will not feature an online multiplayer
component, but as mentioned above, there is the multiplayer function via
the Versus mode for 1-4 players.

4. What sets Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream apart from other fishing games
for the Wii?

The Reel Fishing franchise is a true-to-life fishing experience, and
because of that, it has become the best selling fishing franchise of
all-time. Natsume has been able to set this series apart from others on
the market by delivering a realistic experience to players and fans. Also,
by utilizing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as your fishing equipment, players
will really feel like they are fishing with a rod and reel.

5. Is the game about getting high scores or big fish? Or is it more about
providing a casual fishing experience?

Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream is really aimed to satisfy the need of every
gamer who has fished or who has wanted to cast their first line.  It’s
really about providing an authentic-feeling fishing game with realistic
controls, genuine simulation and tons of fun! And it’s about giving
players the freedom to choose how to make their fishing experience their
own.  Certain requirements must be achieved to progress through the game,
however the player is able to do so at his/her own pace.

6. About how many locations and fish are available in the game?

There are over 40 types of fresh and salt water fish, including “Legendary
Fish”, a boss fish if you will.  Additionally, there are more than 100
pieces of tackle so players can customize their fishing experience. A
variety of locations will put players on the banks of pristine and
tranquil lakes, raging rivers and tropical oceans.  Each location will
require a different fishing approach and each environment will have
diverse fish for players to try to catch.

7. And finally, when is the game releasing in each region?

Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream is launching in the US this June and a little
later this year in Europe.
