Nintendo announced the next DS system this morning in Japan, calling it the ‘Nintendo DSi’.  Here’s a breakdown of the main features of the Nintendo DSi:

  • Dimensions: 137.0mm x 74.9mm x 18.9mm (size reduced by 12%)
  • GBA slot removed *tear*
  • Two 3.25 in. screens
  • Both screens are touch screens. Update: This turned out to be a miss translations and is not true, Sorry.
  • 3 Megapixel Camera, (2 cameras, one inside, one on the outside)
  • Play Music
  • Edit Pictures using the touch screens, similar to the Wii’s Photo Channel
  • Adjust pitch and playback speed of songs
  • SD memory card slot – Copy pictures directly to Wii Photo Channel
  • Onboard memory
    • Download games using “Nintendo Points” (New name for Wii Points)
    • DS Browser built-in
    • DS Virtual Console
    • DS Ware
  • From the “Nintendo DS Shop,” you can download “Nintendo DS Ware.” Software will be split into four categories: Free, 200, 500, Premium (800). And until March 2010, you’ll get a free 1000 points (1000 yen or $10) when you buy a DSi.
  • Two colors at launch, white and black
  • November 1, 2008 Release Date for Japan, 18900 yen (about $180)
