Both Microsoft and Sony have stepped into the motion control realm with the introduction of a motion control camera at this years E3. Nintendo’ president Iwata was asked if Nintendo ever considered this camera technology.

Satoru Iwata said his company had made experimental games controlled by camera-based sensors, but got better results with the accelerometers it eventually chose to use for its Wii console.

This camera technology isn’t very new itself. Sony had a primitive forum of this technology since 2003, which has sold pretty well. Mr. Iwata seems to be pretty sure about Nintendo’s decision on not using the camera technology.

“Until they say when they’re releasing it, how much it costs and what software it comes with,” Iwata said, “we won’t know whether that is the route we should have taken. However . . . I think they couldn’t choose to release exactly the same thing.”

If by chance this technology takes off, I’m sure Nintendo has a back up plan in, Ubisoft impressive motion camera for an upcoming work out game.
