James’ musing: Could this be why Nintendo is holding a Nintendo Direct today
Have you ever had one of those moments where you wake up in the middle of the night and have a revelation that keeps you up the rest of the night? Well I had one of those moments last night but it wasn’t my own thought. For some reason I awoke in the middle of the night to look through our twitter account. As I stalked down the twitter feed I ran across a statement that almost arose me out of my bed. (Sorry I do not remember the twitter name or been able to find it again)
This was the basis of the Tweet. “Could Nintendo be holding a Nintendo Direct today so EA and Ubisoft could talk about the Wii U tomorrow ” I am not sure if this is the case but it sure does make a lot of sense. Both Ubisoft and EA were big supporters of the Wii U during E3 2011. EA’s CEO came on stage during the Nintendo press conference. Ubisoft held a duel roundtable with Nintendo that showed of Wii U games. I am sure both these developers have something to show off for the Wii U.
Remember when the 3DS was announced two years ago? No one mentioned the 3DS before it was officially announced during Nintendo’s press conference. The minute after the conference ended, a flood of press releases, and announcements poured out. Even though the Wii U has already been announced…kinda..it is basically a new system no one has ever seen. If Nintendo just shows the “new” basics for the Wii U, EA and Ubisoft could be given the green light to announce and show off some new games, or at least toss a Wii U logo at the end of a trailer they may be showing.
The crazy/great E3 2012 week has started! Are you ready!?

I had the same thought, it makes sense and that way they wouldn’t be disrupting any NDA’s

Agreed! It would be nice to finally have some exciting Nintendo news coming out of the Monday events.

This just came from the NoA twitter page:
“Tune in at 3pm PT/6 pm ET today! #NintendoDirect shares the vision behind the #WiiU. No #WiiU game info until Tueshttp://on.fb.me/JwRq0o.”
So looks like Nintendo will just be showing the hardware off which fits even more with what you’re saying James. Show the hardware now, Ubisoft/EA can show games running and even demo it tomorrow, and then Tuesday will show off the Wii U games.
Just 4 1/2 hours!
