Japanese Sales Chart: Pokémon debuts on top (Week Ending November 23, 2014)
The latest sales data from Japan is in, and this has been a big week for Nintendo gamers, with half of the top twenty games on Nintendo platforms.
The 3DS continues its Eastern domination with seven games in the top twenty, including the extremely strong debut of the latest Pokémon releases, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which totaled well over 1.5 million sales. Monster Hunter 4, Yokai Watch 2 and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS remain in the top ten, with strong total sales for each in the millions.
The Wii U’s Captain Toad and Taiko Drum Master sold over 10,000 units each, with Mario Kart 8 close behind with another 8700 sales at number fifteen.
In hardware, the New 3DS is again on top, moving almost 70,000 units between the regular and LL (XL) models. Even the “old” 3DS and 3DS LL sold over 20,000 units combines, another strong indication of the popularity of the software. The Wii U came in at number six, with almost 10,000 sales.
Overall a very solid week for the 3DS in particular. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is still another week away from release in Japan, so it will be interesting to see its impact on the Wii U market over there.
