The latest sales data from Japan shows a very strong week for Nintendo in its homeland. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U made its debut in the region, and its no surprise that it made a big impact, selling over 200,000 copies to sit at the top of the charts.

The 3DS rounded out the top five games, with another 170,000 for Pokémon Oemga Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, followed by two new games, Derby Stallion and Aikatsu!, and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS.

The Wii U had two other games in the top twenty, with Mario Kart 8 and Captain Toad coming in at numbers 11 and 17 respectively.

In hardware, the Wii U system benefited from the strong launch of Super Smash Bros., doubling last week’s sales to reach number four on the charts with almost 25,000 sales. Only the 3DS sold more, with three of its iterations making up the top three hardware sales. Interestingly the New 3DS XL and New 3DS came in at numbers one and three, respectively, with the “regular” 3DS coming in at number two after selling more than the New 3DS.
