Live-Blog: Nintendo of America’s Media Summit 2010
It’s just under 15 minutes until Nintendo is scheduled to begin their Spring Media Summit. We’ll have all the latest updates from the show right here so sit back and enjoy the show (All times are PST)!
Update: The briefing is now over, but stay tuned for all the media that’s sure to show up later tonight from hands-on sessions with the games!
10:24 – That’s it folks!
10:17 – “When you finish playing this, you’re going to feel like you know Samus in a way you’ve never known her before.” –Metroid: Other M will be playable at the Summit this afternoon, so stay tuned for more info later today!
10:19 – Metroid: Other M being discussed. Being demoed at the Summit. Due out June 27th!!
10:15 – Cammie is now talking about Club Nintendo. Nintendo says it will release a bunch of new Mario posters. A new Game & Watch collection for DS. And Finally, Grill-Off with Ultra Hand. A localized version of the first digital game released to NCL’s club Nintendo.
10:14 – Dragon Quest 9 (IX): Sentinels of the Starry Skies to be published by Nintendo in the US.
10:08 – GameStop demo disc includes two quests. Also, if you pre-order Tri, you’ll receive an exclusive Monster Hunter Tri card that will give you 500 Wii Points good toward the purchase of anything on the WiIWare or DSiWare channels.
10:07 – Right. So the Monster Hunter Tri demo continues. It’s cool, I assure you. Basically, lots of battles spanning both earth and sea. Nothing I write will do this justice, but I will say it looks fun and I’m sure Monster Hunter fans will be extremely pleased.
10:01 – Monster Hunter Tri Classic Controller Pro Bundle coming April 20!
9:59 – Monster Hunter Tri will be bundled with the new classic controller pro in America. The controller is on display at the event. Nintendo also announces: Monster Hunter Tri will offer free online play in North America. “We can confirm that compatibility with the WiiSpeak accessory will be enabled with the release.” And finally, Nintendo announces a partnership with GameStop to release an exclusive demo disc of the game to the retailer on March 8.
9:57 – Disneys guilty party for wii. Developed by Wideload. Due out second half 2010 (I thought this summit was only about first-half titles Cammie ;) )
9:56 – Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands for Wii will include the 1992 Prince of Persia classic. It’s exclusive to the Wii version. Coming this May!
9:54 – Ghostwire Trailer being shown. Due out in October.
9:51 – More sales stats…22 first-party and 54 third-party games on Wii have sold more than a million copies around the world. 45 first-party and 63 third-party DS games have also sold more than a million copies around the globe.
9:49 – Demo for Photo Dojo still going on with hilarious results
9:43 – Use the cameras on the DSi to create your own fighters. Bill is editing the fighter he created for himself. You can take pictures of your friends of yourself.
You basically make a series of poses designed to match a template on the DS. Then the game imports your various photos into the game. The experience also benefits from audio snippets you record with the in-game microphone.
9:42 – Metal Torrent coming this spring. X-Scape, an exploratory adventure involving more than 20 planets. Also coming this spring.
Bill Trinen and Dan Owsen from NOA take the stage to demo Photo Dojo (also known as Photo Fighter X.)
9:41 – Rage of the Gladiator. First-person mythical battle game. Launches this spring.
9:39 – Now talking about Mega Man 10 for WiiWare. “More hardcore, action goodness with an incredibly different gameplay style,” says Adelman. He says there’s a new easy mode in the game that’s not all that easy. Coming March 21.
Meanwhile, Max & the Magic Marker coming to WiiWare in the States on March 8.
Cave Story finally has a release date, March 22.
Super Meat Boy is next. Coming “this summer.”
And Yet it Moves. Also “commercially available this summer.”
9:38 – Art Style Light Trax (Color Stream on GBA) and Rotozoa coming to WiiWare.
9:37 – WarioWare DIY, March 28. Available as a retail DS version and a WiiWare companion piece.
9:36 – Dan Adelman, manager, business development on stage. VC library stands at 347 titles. On WiiWare, 189 titles. Altogether, more than 500 downloadable games. 127 games and applications on DSiWare.
9:35 – 11 of the games shown today will only be available on WiiWare and DSiWare.
9:35 – Picross 3D. Loads of puzzles and more released throughout the year over Nintendo’s service. Launches May 3.
9:35 – Pokemon Heart Gold/ Soul Silver coming to retail March 14 (previously announced)
9:35 – FlingSmash coming to Wii this summer.
9:35 – You can post your scores online in the international leaderboards. Game arrives June 7.
9:34 – Sin & Punishment: Star Successor also coming in the first half. We get to play it today.
9:33 – New trailer being shown. Release date is May 23!
9:32 – Demo for Galaxy 2 now done…
9:28 – Level with Yoshi being shown now. Shake the Wii Remote for a head bash, eat different fruit for different abilities. Use the pointer for Yoshi’s tongue. 2D style gameplay areas with Yoshi, looks to have more of this in Galaxy 2
9:23 – Nate from the NOA Treehouse is on the stage and demoing the game. Spin-Dig Galaxy — Digga-Leg’s Planet. Mario flies in and lands on a cylindrical world. Gameplay seems very familiar so far. Uses drill — shake the Wii remote and Mario tunnels through the inside of the planet and comes out on the other side. – IGN
9:22 – Super Mario Galaxy 2 being demoed at this time! Should have lots of hands-on impressions and video later today
9:21 – New first-party game, 100 Classic Books. Features everything from Dracula to Journey to the Center of the Earth. $19.99 on DS.
9:20 – Talking America’s Test Kitchen..
9:15 – DSi XL coming on March 28th for $189, Colors: Wine Red and Black
9:14 – “One thing I want to get clear up front. The focus today is going to be on the first half of 2010. All of you who were hoping to hear some stuff on the back-half will have to wait until E3. The good news is that the first half of 2010 is absolutely packed,
9:12 – 15 Wii games and 8 DS games to play
9:11 – Nintendo is currently going over sales data
9:07 – Capcom is in attendance (probably going to talk up Monster Hunter Tri), also lots of Nintendo’s internal Treehouse developers, many journalists from all over, etc.
