Before the E3 2017 festivities began, President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime’ teased that there would be a big reveal about an hour into Nintendo’s E3 Presentation. This revealed turned out to be a 3DS game titled Metroid: Samus Returns, an enhanced remake of the Gameboy title, Metroid II: Return of Samus.
Releasing September 17, 2017, this 2D Metroid remake will add new elements to the gameplay, such as a melee counter, which will allow you to knock back enemies and land critical hits on them, provided your timing is good enough. There are even optional new powers you can use, like the sonar pulse, which can help you find breakable blocks that lead to new pathways. Despite the new content, Nintendo promises the game will be a challenge to fans of the series. For those interested, a special edition featuring a soundtrack CD will also be available.
