ATLUS Games is showing new details on the upcoming Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold‘s Classic Mode, which shows off some of the gameplay elements, which looks like it will grant the player a bit more freedom than in the game’s story mode. You’ll even get to draw a map on the bottom screen. Classic mode also features a variety of characters (within the thirteen classes) to add to you guild. The game’s Grimoire stones will allow you to further customize characters by granting the use of skills normally outside of their class.
From ATLUS:
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold’s Classic Mode is a return to the origins of the hardcore dungeon crawling RPG, but with completely revamped dungeon layouts and graphical improvements unique to the Nintendo 3DS system. Deadly FOEs and random encounters await your party chosen from 13 classes from the Etrian series — mainstays such as Alchemists, Landsknechts, Protectors, Hexers, and including some fan favorites, such as War Magi, Beasts, and Troubadours.
Unlike Story Mode, which has a fixed party and intricate storyline, Classic Mode gives players full access to character creation, as well as being able to customize characters using Grimoire Stones, which grant any character class to use another class’ skills.
One fun thing to note in the video, the background music is the “Classic” version as well, which uses the original Nintendo DS music. Like in the first Untold title, a newly added orchestral score can be selected from the options menu at any time.
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold will release on the 3DS this summer. ATLUS is also selling pre-order and limited edition versions of the game which contain the game, art book, and soundtrack CD.
