Chase the Monday blues away with the prospect of what looks to be quite a big week of releases for the European eShop. This week brings with it some terrific titles for the Wii U and 3DS, including Yo-Kai Watch (finally), a couple of free-to-play titles, a classic SNES Virtual Console release, plenty of discounts, and much more besides.

Wii U eShop

  • Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge (Nintendo, free) – this free-to-play game takes the Mario vs. Donkey formula and adds amiibo functionality. Amiibo figures unlock stages, with each character having its own special abilities, for example, Mario can wall jump and Yoshi can eat enemies.
  • Lost Reavers (Bandai Namco, free) – the beta version was available from April 14 and now the final version comes on April 28. This is another free-to-play title, this time a co-op action title for up to four players in a treasure-hunting adventure.
  • Shütshimi (Choice Provisions, €9.99 / £6.99) – this shoot ’em up features short, crazy and colorful levels with plenty of on-screen chaos, with co-op and GamePad off-TV play.
  • PixelMaker (Nostatic Software, €2.49 / £1.99) – from the makers of VoxelMaker comes a similar concept, a budget title that uses the GamePad to produce scenes of pixel art for sharing to Miiverse.
  • Run Run and Die (EnjoyUp Games, €3.99/ £3.59) – this simple runner features 24 rage-inducing levels inspired by old consoles. You control an auto-running penguin, who can jump with the tap a button or the GamePad screen. There will be a lot of death.
  • TAP TAP ARCADE (RCMADIAX, €1.99/ £1.79) – this compilation title includes DON’T CRASH and SPIKEY WALLS.

  • Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge (Nintendo, free) – as per the Wii U release, this is an amiibo-powered free-to-play title in the vein in Mario vs. Donkey King.
  • Sssnakes (EnjoyUp Games, €1.99/ £1.79) – if you ever owned a Nokia phone in the early 2000s you’ll know the original Snake. This modern take reinvigorates the simple formula of eating and growing while avoiding your own tail. This version adds the ability to shoot, multiple snakes on screen at once, and varied environments, plus online leaderboards.
  • Castle Conqueror EX (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99)

New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

  • Super Punch-Out!! (Nintendo, €7.99 / £7.19) – this SNES game was originally released in 1994 in the US (1995 in Europe) and was the successor to the iconic NES original, bringing with it a massive leap in visuals and style.

3DS Retail Download

  • Yo-kai Watch (Nintendo / Level-5, €39.99 / £34.99) – this series began in Japan in 2013, sparking a phenomenon including two sequels, an anime series and toys. It hit the US and Australia late last year and now it’s finally Europe’s turn. The game draws comparisons to Pokémon with battle its mechanics and collecting of Yo-Kai – which are spirits – but forges its own unique identity with an engaging story that’s full of fun and humor.   • SteamWorld Heist: The Outsider (Image & Form, €4.99/ £4.49) – an expansion pack bringing a new story and playable character, plus new missions, weapons and hats (of course).
