Nintendo Is Still Working On Virtual Console For Wii U
The Virtual Console on the Wii was a great way to introduce old classics to new gamers or allow old school gamers, like myself, to enjoy their favorites from ‘back in the day’. It seems like continuing the Virtual Console’s existence on Nintendo’s new platform, Wii U, would have been a common sense move but yet we still have no Virtual Console. The Wii U released with the Nintendo eShop at the ready and I think many just assumed the Virtual Console would be right there next to Nintendo’s digital storefront but the app never showed face and left many wondering. The good news is that Kotaku recently asked Nintendo about Virtual console and while Nintendo may not have given us the answer we want to hear it is an answer nonetheless.
“We do not have any specifics to share at this time,” a Nintendo of America rep told me in an e-mail. “However, we are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone.”
One question that a lot of gamers have been asking, regarding the Virtual Console for the Wii U, is if GameCube games will be appearing on the app. This question has still not been answered but it is a big possibility since the GameCube is not backwards compatible with the Wii U. The one interesting piece of news that has really piqued my interest is that Nintendo is trying to make it possible to play Virtual Console games on the GamePad alone.
