(Updated) Nintendo stopping EVO from streaming Smash Bros. Melee during tournament
Update:
It looks like Nintendo has changed it’s mind and will allow the stream to go on. Via official EVO site.
The EVO Championship Series is the world’s largest premier fighting video game competition. The 2013 competition is set to start this Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada and will offer a plethora of different fighting games and styles. Some featured game competitions will be streamed online for the world to enjoy.
In hopes of adding Melee to that featured stream list, the official Smash Bros. Melee community raised around $95,000, through EVO’s official fundraiser in support of breast cancer. This was the highest amount raised by any fighting game. This lead to EVO adding Smash Bros. Melee to the official EVO championship series featured format.
Nintendo has reached out to the coordinators of the competition to stop them from streaming Melee.
Coming from the EVO site…
Regrettably, we’ve just been informed by Nintendo of America Inc. that we do not have permission to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Melee for Evo 2013. In light of this, we must make the following changes to the schedule.
Smash has been removed from the stream schedule and replaced with a mix of Persona 4 Arena and King of Fighters XIII
Smash Finals have been moved from Sunday to Saturday, 2:00 PM
I am sure this will be a constantly developing story.
