Nintendo has shed a little light as to why the NX console has remained shrouded in mystery, despite a rapidly approaching launch date now nine months away.
Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that the company is working on an idea, and isn’t ready to divulge much about the NX while they’re working on it. Intriguing, right?
Miyamoto’s comment came when asked about Microsoft and Sony’s upcoming console releases, but said he didn’t want to speculate on what other companies are doing.
In terms of NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on, that’s why we can’t share anything at this point, and I don’t want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker.
We’re all clamoring to hear about the NX, and Nintendo are well-known for thinking outside the box. There are rumors aplenty circulating the interwebs about what the NX might be – VR, cartridge-based, hybrid – but we won’t know the real deal until closer to next March.
In the meantime, let us know your thoughts, hopes and desires on what the NX could ultimately be once revealed to the world.

Wouldn’t shock me a bit if it’s the name.
“Should we call it the Super Duper NES?”
“Nah lets call it the Nintendo 6464!”
“No way, we gotta keep Wii in the name. So the Wii4Meandu!”
“Shut up. All of you. It’s going to be called the Fantastic Amazing Intelligent LaserDiscer, or FAIL for short!”
And so on…

I’m hoping for a VR capable machine. I don’t want VR as a primary focus because it’s not cost effective and I’m not sure it has surpassed the danger of being a “fad”
