EDISON, N.J., March 11, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ — Majesco Entertainment Company (Nasdaq: COOL), an innovative provider of video games for the mass market, today reported financial results for the first quarter ended January 31, 2009.For the first quarter ended January 31, 2009, Majesco’s net revenues increased 75.8 percent to $32.8 million versus $18.7 million in the same period a year ago. During this same period, the Company reported operating income of $3.7 million compared to operating income of $2.4 million in the first quarter of 2008. Net income for the quarter was $4.2 million versus net income of $2.7 million in 2008. The Company’s basic and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $0.15 compared to $0.10 in the same period last year.
Results for the first quarter of 2009 include $0.4 million of non-cash compensation; a loss of $0.1 million related to a change in the fair value of warrants; a $0.1 million charge related to settlement of litigation; and $1.1 million of net proceeds from the sale of rights to a state tax operating loss carryforward. Results for the first quarter of 2008 include $0.4 million of non-cash compensation; a gain of $0.5 million related to a change in the fair value of warrants; and a $0.3 million gain related to settlement of litigation. Non-GAAP operating income for the first quarter of 2009 was $4.3 million and $2.5 million for 2008. Non-GAAP net income was $3.7 million for the first quarter of 2009, and $2.3 million for the same period in 2008.
